ART RESUME: Rudy Young, Writer, Musician, Computer Illustrator
While I am generally retired, I still take
on projects for people who want something special in a web site, menu,
billboard, or any kind of artwork. Although I've supported myself all
my life through commercial art, my favorite thing to do is write. Beginning
in 1981, every night when I came home I would write We are all hoping
for a miracle, and mine is that someone in the publishing business will
stumble across this site and find some talent within.
Specialty:
• Digital Illustration and painting using Adobe Illustrator and
Photoshop, as well as graphic production with Quark X-Press. Web design
in Dreamweaver. Technical Illustration, Patent Disclosure Documents.
Writer.
Background:
• Presently owner of Lightnin' Graphics, a privately owned company
engaged in writing and drawing Disclosure Documents for patent companies,
as well as all types of digital illustration and web page design. I
still do these and a portfolio is available.
• Over ten years' experience as illustrator and art director for
two of the South's largest newspapers, The Florida Times Union in Jacksonville,
Florida, and the New York Times subsidiary, The Gainesville Sun in Gainesville,
Florida.
• Was among handful of illustrators in America invited to assist
with The Aldus Corporation's Beta test of their Super Paint 3.5.
• Associate of Arts degree from Daytona Beach Community College,
Daytona Beach, Florida
• Art and production for National Crime Monthly magazine and College
Magazine, Gainesville, Florida.
• Freelance writing and illustrating internationally distributed
coloring and activity books published by PSI & Associates in Miami,
Florida
• Regular freelance work with Teacher Support Software in Gainesville,
Florida, Sevin Dippity Publications in Coral Gables, Florida, as well
as many film graphics, advertising and publishing agencies in the New
Orleans area
• Freelance work on projects ranging from children's book illustration
(Boy's Quest and Hopscotch magazines, Bluffton, Ohio), to technical
drawing and architectural rendering for swimming pool waterfalls for
Florida Falls, Miami, Florida
• Two years computer paintbox and animation with Two Head Productions,
Gainesville, Florida.
• Have produced, written, directed and edited, as well as provided
original music for two privately funded half-hour videos, The City Dump
(for which I constructed thirty-five walking/talking marionettes) and
The Rudy Young Collection, featuring live on-camera illustration and
painting, all edited to original music
• From 1970 to 1980 was vocalist, songwriter, and played blues-harp
and lead guitar with The Lightnin' Harpo Blues Band in Gainesville,
Florida.
• 2008 - Still playing the Harpo band, but also play with Millet & Flax with Soybean on bass. Basically the same original music done acoustically.
