Penny has been saving up her allowance all year, and when she saw a tropical island advertised in a travel magazine, she asked her parents if she could buy it. "Well, okay," they agreed, "but you can only stay there during summer vacations."
When Penny arrived on the island with her pet pig, the monkeys had already built her a treehouse.
She met some of the other characters on the island; there was Freddy Fruitbat and his seeing-eye man, a wind-up toy named Bob; Carlos, who drove the mail plane, Gimme, Gimmeit and Share, three kids who swam to the island when the toy ship was torpedoed by Peter Packrat in his little submarine.
There are many interesting characters and lots of interesting things going on.
Your child will love Penny's Island, and so will you.

Billy Boat Learns To Float

Boats aren't born knowing how to float, you know, they have to learn. This is the story of one little boat's struggle to master the intricate art of floating. "Even the clumsy canoe can float," Billy tells himself, "surely it can't be that hard." But it is. Follow Billy's story as perseverance pays off in the end.
I wrote this story in the s70's, and for the last six months have been re-drawing and painting it, intending to make every page a masterpiece. I expect to have it finished in about two weeks. Billy Boat is one of my "monsters."

9/15/06 It's finished. 32 pages with 29 computer paintings in Photoshop 4.

Boats aren’t born knowing how to float, you know, they have to learn. Billy Boat is the story of a young boat’s struggle to learn how to float, and of his perseverance in the face of all obstacles. Billy Boat is the first in my City Dump series, where a good fairie comes down to a small town landfill one day, touches the ground with her magic wand and says to the junk lying around, “All of you who have been honest and true, and brushed your teeth regularly, may now come to life.”

The City Dump is made up of characters of all shapes, sizes and colors. Children will learn it’s okay to ride an old bike, your friends are worth more than money, and they should never give up.

Lukey Latchester

Lukey Latchester was the meanest man
Who ever rode the Western plane
Everyone knew that trouble had come
Whenever Lukey came
But the townfolk had no need to worry
There's be no need to cry
For Lukey had come to see his girl
His sweetheart, Cherry Pie

"Hey, where'd she go," cried Lukey
And slowly someone said
"She done run of to Diablo
With that Bobcat Texas Red."
"Ah-hah, that Bobcat'll eat my bullets
When I get a'hold of his tail
Can't hide in the thick, can't hide in the crick
When Lukey's on your trail."
...Twenty more verses with pictures.

Written and illustrated in the early 70's, Lukey Latchester is a 22-section poem that tells the story of the meanest man in the West who is changed by love. Transparent ink paintings.
